So what does it take to make a book matched, live edge table? Here's what our process looks like:
First, we work with our local wood supplier who cuts, air dries, and then kiln dries the live edge slabs. Once the wood is dry and ready to go, we head out to their small saw mill to pick it up and bring it back to the shop where our team will mill the lumber, cut the right sized pieces, and sand… a lot of sanding! Afterward, we apply 2 coats of Rubio Monocoat Pure which is a durable and VOC friendly finish option. You can read more about the benefits of Rubio here. We love this finish not only because of its long list of benefits, but because it also brings out and highlights the stunning characteristics of black walnut. Finally, the last step is attaching the metal legs and making sure that the table meets all of our quality standards. The end result of our meticulous crafting process? A beautiful table made with care for a family to cherish and make memories around for a lifetime! This is a table where they will enjoy dinner and each other's company at the end of their day, where their kids will share what is happening at school, where game nights and parties will be hosted, and occasionally where the tough conversations will be had and report cards will be reviewed - we take great pride in that!
It's easy to see why handmade furniture is worth the extra effort - not only is it unique and well-crafted, but it can tell stories too.
